Investigating Diffusion Coefficient Using Dynamic Light Scattering Technique

چکیده
In this work, the Z-average, effective, apparent diffusion coefficients and their poly-dispersity indexes were investigated for dilute poly-disperse homogeneous spherical particles in dispersion where the Rayleigh-Gans-Debye approximation is valid. The results reveal that the values of the apparent and effective diffusion coefficients at a scattering angle investigated are consistent and the difference between the effective and Z-average diffusion coefficients is a function of the mean particle size, size distribution and scattering angle. For the small particles with narrow size distributions, the Z-average diffusion coefficient can be got directly at any scattering angle. For the small particles with wide size distributions, the Z-average diffusion coefficient should be measured at a small scattering angle. For large particles, in order to obtain a good approximate value of Z-average diffusion coefficient, the wider the particle size distribution, the smaller the scattering angle that the DLS data are measured. The poly-dispersity index of the effective diffusion coefficient at a scattering angle investigated is consistent with that of the Z-average diffusion coefficient and without considering the influences of noises, the difference between the polydispersity indexes of the Z-average and apparent diffusion coefficients is determined by the mean particle size, size distribution and scattering angle together.

Protein diffusion coefficients determined by macroscopic-gradient Rayleigh interferometry and dynamic light scattering.
Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is extensively used for measuring macromolecule diffusion coefficients. Contrary to classical techniques based on macroscopic concentration gradients, DLS probes microscopic fluctuations in concentration. DLS accuracy and its concordance with macroscopic-gradient techniques remains an outstanding important issue. We measured lysozyme diffusion coefficients in aque...

Five narrowly distributed fractions of phenolphthalein poly(ether sulfone) (PES-C) were studied in CHCl3 by both static and dynamic laser light scattering (LLS) at 25 °C. The dynamic LLS showed that the PES-C samples contain some large polymer clusters as in previously studied phenolphthalein poly(ether ketone) (PEK-C). These large clusters can be removed by a 0.1-ím filter. Our results showed ...

This paper describes a novel optical method for label-free quantitative imaging of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and intracellular motility (IM) in the rodent cerebral cortex. This method is based on a technique that integrates dynamic light scattering (DLS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT), named DLS-OCT. The technique measures both the axial and transverse velocities of CBF, whereas convent...

We present a new technique for measuring velocity gradients for laminar shear flow, using dynamic light scattering in the strongly multiple-scattering regime. We derive temporal autocorrelation functions for multiply scattered light, taking into account particle displacements arising from deterministic shear flow and random Brownian motion. The laminar shear flow and Brownian motion are charact...
متن کاملDiffusion Measurements in Fluids by Dynamic Light Scattering
In the course of the last thirty years, light scattering techniques have been used with increasing effort and attention for the measurement of the thermophysical properties of pure fluids and fluid mixtures. Here, an introduction is given to dynamic light scattering (DLS) as a valuable tool for the measurement of diffusion processes. First, the basic principles of the method and its experimenta...
